The light effect of incandescent lamps and halogen tungsten lamps is 12-24 lumens/W, fluorescent lamps 50-70 lumens/W, sodium lamps 90-140 lumens/W, most of the power consumption becomes heat loss. The improved LED light efficiency will reach 50-200 lumens/watt, and its light monochromaticity is good, the spectrum is narrow, and it can directly emit colored visible light without filtering.
1. Long lifespan
The working environment of traffic signal lights is relatively harsh, with severe cold and heat, sun and rain, so the requirements for lamps are relatively high. The average lifespan of incandescent bulbs for general signal lights is 1000h, and the average lifespan of low-voltage tungsten halogen bulbs is 2000h. The resulting maintenance costs are high. The LED traffic signal lamp has no filament vibration to cause damage, and there is no glass cover cracking problem.
2. Good visibility
LED traffic signal lights can still maintain good visibility and performance indicators under severe weather conditions such as continuous light, rain, and dust. The light emitted by the LED traffic signal lamp is monochromatic light, so there is no need to use color chips to produce red, yellow, and green signal colors. The light emitted by the LED is directional and has a certain divergence angle, which can abandon the aspheric mirror used in the traditional signal lamp. This feature of LED solves the phantom (commonly known as false display) and color fading problems of traditional signal lights, and improves the light efficiency.
3. Low thermal energy
LED traffic lights are directly replaced by electrical energy as a light source, which generates extremely low heat and almost no heat. The cooling surface of the traffic signal lamp can avoid scalding of maintenance personnel and can obtain a longer life.
4. Fast response
Tungsten halogen bulbs are not as fast as LED traffic lights. LED traffic lights can reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents.
5. Power saving
The advantages of LED light sources in energy saving are very obvious. One of its notable features is low energy consumption, which is of great significance to the application of lamps. Almost 100% of the excitation energy of LED traffic lights becomes visible light. In contrast, 80% of incandescent bulbs become heat loss, and only 20% becomes visible light. From a long-term development perspective, the traffic light cost is low.
Because of the important role of traffic lights in urban traffic, a large number of traffic lights need to be updated every year, which leads to a relatively large market. LED traffic lights will also produce benign stimuli for the entire LED industry. At present, many cities have clearly stipulated that all new traffic lights use LED as the light source. If the traffic signal lights in all cities use LEDs as the light source, the number of them is considerable.
